New Zealand - Victory

New Zealand - Victory

Immediately following the cessation of hostilities in November 1918 a request was made to the Post and Telegraph Department to issue a set of stamps to commemorate the declaration of peace. The suggestion was adopted that same month and resulted in the issuance of a set six stamps.  The 1/2 pence shown here depicts the lady victory with a lion to represent the British empire.  The lion is modeled after the ones in Trafalgar Square, London.

Perforations: 14
Date of Issue: January 27, 1920
