France - Royan Beach
Royan has a long history as a seaside resort.  The area has a climate similar to areas of the Mediterranean coast. Royan was one of the
very first resorts in France in the early 20th century when it became popular for wealthy tourists to holiday at the beach.
The sight of a family dining on the beach with maids waiting at
table was quite common.  Unfortunately much of the area was destroyed during
the Second World War.  The beach stretches for several miles on either side of the town of Royan.
